About the game
Manoeuvre is a fast-playing wargame of 19th-century battlefield command, where two generals clash across chessboard-sized geomorphic maps. Each of the eight playable nations - including France, Britain, Russia, and the Ottoman Empire - has its own set of units and a dedicated 60-card deck representing its unique military strengths. Players maneuver their forces and resolve one-on-one battles using dice and card play to gain an edge. The modular map and asymmetric national decks keep matchups varied from game to game. It plays in about an hour for exactly 2 players.
Hobbli's Notes
Manoeuvre is a great gateway into historical wargaming, delivering real tactical depth without the sprawling rulebooks typical of the genre. The asymmetric national decks give each matchup real personality, and the geomorphic maps keep replayability high. It's strictly a two-player game, so it won't work for larger groups, but for a head-to-head historical duel it's hard to beat. A favorite among fans of accessible tactical wargames.
What we like
- Fast-playing wargame despite offering real tactical depth.
- Geomorphic maps and eight distinct nations add lasting variety.
- Card-driven system gives each nation asymmetric strengths.
- Accessible entry point into Napoleonic-era wargaming.
Keep in mind
- Limited strictly to two players.
- Historical wargame theme has a narrower general appeal.
- Requires understanding of card-driven combat resolution to play well.
Who it's for
Best for two players (ages 12+) interested in historical wargaming with a manageable rules footprint.
