About the game

Dune: War for Arrakis is an asymmetric strategy game pitting House Atreides and the Fremen against House Harkonnen and the Emperor's forces in a struggle for control of Arrakis and its precious Spice. Players maneuver iconic units like the Fedaykin and Sardaukar, send harvesters into the deep desert at the risk of attracting monstrous Sandworms, and use an event-card-driven action dice system to reshape the conflict each playthrough. Deeply thematic and richly produced, it brings the Dune saga's political and military tension to the tabletop.

Hobbli's Notes

War for Arrakis captures the tense push-and-pull of the Dune saga extremely well, with the ever-present threat of Sandworms adding real jeopardy to Spice harvesting. The asymmetry between factions means both sides play very differently, which keeps repeated matches feeling distinct.

What we like

  • Strong asymmetric factions with distinct playstyles.
  • Rich Dune theming brought to life through unique mechanisms.
  • Event cards and dice add variability across plays.
  • Solo mode supported for fans wanting a single-player experience.

Keep in mind

  • Long two-hour playtime for a fairly complex ruleset.
  • Newer release means less established community consensus.
  • Asymmetry can mean an initial learning curve for both sides.

Who it's for

Best for ages 14+, fans of the Dune franchise and asymmetric area-control wargames, in groups of 2-4 (solo play supported).
