About the game

Winter Kingdom challenges players to expand territory across seven randomly arranged hexagonal map tiles, placing houses according to terrain matched to their hand of cards. Randomized scoring conditions, economy cards, and twist cards mean every game features unique rules and objectives. You balance building efficiently, upgrading abilities, and managing gold to maximize territory near shared castles. The modular setup and variable scoring create high replayability round after round. It's a mid-weight area-control game with strong tactical variety.

Hobbli's Notes

Winter Kingdom stands out for its modular combination of map tiles, scoring cards, and twists that keep the game feeling fresh well beyond a first few plays. Hobbli's team appreciates designer Donald X. Vaccarino's knack for interlocking systems, seen here in the careful balance between house placement and ability upgrades. At roughly an hour, it offers solid depth without overwhelming newer strategy gamers. The variable setup does mean a slightly longer teach for first-time players.
