About the game
Gaia Project is a spiritual successor to Terra Mystica, set in a distant future where fourteen asymmetric factions terraform planets to expand their reach. Players develop six areas of technology, from terraforming to research, unlocking advanced abilities and bonuses along the way. The board is assembled from modular hex sectors, giving every game a fresh galaxy to fight over. Points come from tech development, building, and end-game scoring conditions.
Hobbli's Notes
Gaia Project is a heavyweight euro masterclass in asymmetric faction design and tech-tree optimization. Its modular board and wide array of factions give it enormous replay value for a game already packed with strategic depth. It demands significant mental effort and rules mastery, rewarding players who enjoy tightly interlocking economic puzzles. This is a game for groups who want their strategy games as dense as possible.
What we like
- Deep, tightly interlocking tech-tree strategy.
- Highly asymmetric factions create genuinely distinct playstyles.
- Strong solo mode for a game of this weight.
- Excellent replayability from the modular board setup.
Keep in mind
- Very steep learning curve and rules complexity.
- Long playtime that increases further with more players.
- Low direct player interaction may not suit every group.
Who it's for
Seasoned euro gamers who enjoy deep optimization puzzles, best in groups of 3 to 4 experienced players though playable solo, ages 12 and up.
