About the game

Machi Koro Legacy takes the dice-rolling, income-collecting foundation of Machi Koro and wraps it in a ten-game legacy campaign. As in the original, players roll dice to earn income from their buildings and race to construct landmarks, but decisions made across sessions permanently unlock new mechanics, storylines, and twists that evolve the game world. Even a session where you're not in contention to win still shapes the setup for the next game in the series. It builds toward a complete narrative told through the familiar world of Machi Koro.

Hobbli's Notes

A clever way to give a light, family-friendly dice game long-term narrative stakes, Machi Koro Legacy rewards a consistent group willing to commit to the full ten-game arc. The surprises unlocked along the way keep the simple dice-and-income loop feeling fresh far longer than the base game does on its own. Because components get permanently altered, it's a one-time journey rather than a game you replay from scratch, so it suits a dedicated group more than casual drop-in play.

What we like

  • Adds meaningful long-term narrative progression to the light Machi Koro formula.
  • Player choices carry consequences across the whole ten-game campaign.
  • Approachable dice-rolling mechanics keep it accessible to newer players.
  • Surprise reveals and unlocks keep sessions feeling fresh.
  • Fits into a fairly short 45-minute session length.

Keep in mind

  • Legacy components are consumed permanently, so it can't be replayed the same way twice.
  • Requires committing to the same group across the full campaign to see the story through.
  • Some may find the base Machi Koro gameplay too luck-driven even with legacy additions.

Who it's for

Families and casual gamer groups ages 8 and up who can commit to playing through a full legacy campaign together, for 2-4 players.
