About the game
My City is a legacy tile-laying game from Reiner Knizia in which you build your own city across twenty-four evolving episodes. Each session you place tiles onto your personal board to fulfill scoring patterns, with new rules, stickers, and elements introduced as the campaign progresses. Choices made in one episode carry forward permanently, so your board becomes a personalized record of your city's growth. A double-sided board also offers a repeatable, non-legacy mode once you've unlocked enough content. It's an approachable way to experience a legacy campaign without heavy rules overhead.
Hobbli's Notes
My City does a wonderful job making the legacy format approachable: the core tile-laying rules stay simple even as new twists get added episode by episode. Watching your personal board evolve and become permanently yours is a genuinely satisfying experience. It does require the same group to stick with it across all episodes to get the full arc. A great gateway into legacy gaming for family tables.
What we like
- Legacy format creates an evolving, deeply personalized board.
- Simple tile-laying core rules keep it family-friendly.
- Permanent changes make each session feel meaningful.
- Repeatable mode available after finishing the legacy campaign.
Keep in mind
- Legacy components are single-use, limiting replay without a new copy.
- Requires a consistent group across all twenty-four episodes.
- May feel too light for hardcore strategy gamers.
- Permanent alterations to components may bother some collectors.
Who it's for
Great for families and legacy-game newcomers aged 8+, in groups of 2-4 committed to playing through the full campaign together.
