About the game
Forum Trajanum has each player governing a Colonia founded by Emperor Trajan, developing their own city on a grid while contributing to the shared Forum Trajanum monument. Grid-based tile placement determines how your Colonia grows, and variable player powers shape distinct strategies. Success in supporting the emperor's grand construction project, alongside optimizing your own city, determines who joins his inner circle. Designed by Stefan Feld, it's an elegant, tightly puzzled tile-placement Eurogame.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editors find this a clean, tightly wound Feld puzzle: the tension between building your own city and contributing to the shared forum is the highlight. Rewarding for players who enjoy grid-based optimization.
What we like
- Tight grid-based tile placement puzzle.
- Variable player powers add asymmetric strategic paths.
- Dual focus on personal city and shared forum project.
- Elegant Feld-style interlocking scoring systems.
Keep in mind
- Two-hour playtime with high complexity for casual groups.
- Presentation feels somewhat abstract despite the Roman theme.
- Tile placement can feel constrained by limited grid space.
Who it's for
Mid-weight Euro fans who enjoy grid-based tile placement; ages 12+, groups of 2-4.
