About the game

Carpe Diem is a Stefan Feld tile-placement game in which players act as wealthy Roman patricians building out a lucrative city district. On your turn you take goods and place them onto tiles in your personal district, then use score cards to convert your layout into prestige points at the end of specific rounds. The scoring is varied and interlocking, so no single strategy dominates every game. It's a tidy, efficient euro that rewards planning several turns ahead.

Hobbli's Notes

Carpe Diem is a lighter, friendlier entry point into Feld's puzzly style of scoring engines: the tile placement is intuitive, and the district you build up feels satisfying to look at by game's end. It's not as punishing as some of his heavier designs, which makes it a nice fit for groups who want Feld-style depth without the marathon playtime.

What we like

  • Elegant tile-placement system that's easy to learn but has real depth.
  • Multiple score cards mean different games reward different strategies.
  • Satisfying to watch your district take shape turn by turn.
  • Reasonable 75-minute playtime for the strategic depth it offers.

Keep in mind

  • Can feel like multiplayer solitaire with limited direct interaction.
  • Tile availability luck can occasionally limit your plans.
  • Scoring card combinations may need a play-through to fully appreciate.

Who it's for

Good for ages 10+ and euro-game fans who enjoy tile-placement puzzles and multiple viable scoring paths, in groups of 2-4.
