About the game

Notre Dame is a Stefan Feld classic set among the influential families of 14th-century Paris living in the shadow of the great cathedral. Players use action cards to advance their family's power and prestige across nine rounds, but must also manage the health of their borough or risk being ravaged by an encroaching plague. Careful use of limited action cards forces tough trade-offs, since focusing on one area of growth often means neglecting another. The player who accumulates the most prestige points by the end wins.

Hobbli's Notes

Notre Dame is an early Feld design that still holds up well: the action-card system is tight and the plague mechanic adds real tension to what could otherwise be a purely optimization-driven euro. A great entry point for players wanting to explore Feld's catalog before jumping into heavier titles.

What we like

  • Elegant action-card system with meaningful risk-versus-reward choices.
  • Plague mechanic adds tension and punishes inattentive play.
  • Quick 75-minute playtime relative to its strategic depth.
  • Rewards clever, efficient resource management.

Keep in mind

  • Plague mechanic can feel harsh if you fall behind early.
  • Limited direct interaction between players.
  • Area control elements can feel somewhat abstract thematically.
