About the game

Micropolis is a tile-drafting and set-collection game about growing an ant colony, with players surrounding their central nest with ten tiles connected by tunnels over the course of the game. Each round, the player with the largest army chooses first from a line of tiles featuring queens, nannies, architects, warriors, generals, and fruit gatherers. Careful drafting decisions balance army growth, fruit-variety scoring, and blocking rivals from key roles. Bruno Cathala and Charles Chevallier deliver a colorful, family-friendly colony-building game with real tactical bite.

Hobbli's Notes

Micropolis takes a familiar drafting formula and dresses it up with charming ant-colony theming that kids and adults both enjoy. The escalating army-size mechanic for turn order adds a clever extra layer of push-and-pull to the drafting. It's an easy, colorful recommendation for family game night that still rewards planning ahead.

What we like

  • Charming ant-colony theme appeals to a wide range of ages.
  • Turn-order-by-army-size mechanic adds a smart tactical wrinkle.
  • Approachable 30-minute playtime scales well up to six players.
  • Fruit-variety scoring rewards diversified strategies.

Keep in mind

  • Light overall depth may not satisfy heavier strategy gamers.
  • Tile availability can sometimes feel constrained with more players.
