About the game
D-Day Dice puts 1-4 players in the boots of Allied soldiers storming the Normandy beaches on June 6th, 1944, trying to organize scattered units into an effective assault on a German machine gun nest. Everyone starts with just a small unit and gradually collects soldiers, specialists, items, and courage as they advance sector by sector across the beach. It's a cooperative dice-rolling game where all players act simultaneously and must coordinate to keep each other alive, with resources carrying over from turn to turn for long-term planning. A full solitaire mode is also built in for solo play. This Second Edition adds new art, missions, tiles, and dice while staying compatible with earlier versions.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team likes how much tension D-Day Dice squeezes out of its dice-rolling core: every roll matters, and the resource-management layer keeps decisions meaningful turn after turn. It handles solo play just as well as full cooperative groups, which is a nice bit of flexibility. The WWII beach-assault theme comes through strongly in both the visuals and the mounting pressure of the mission. Fans of cooperative dice games looking for a tense, thematic challenge should enjoy this one.
What we like
- Tense cooperative dice-rolling resource management.
- Strong WWII beach-assault theme and atmosphere.
- Works equally well solo or with a full cooperative group.
- Simultaneous play from all players keeps downtime minimal.
- Resource carryover across turns rewards long-term planning.
Keep in mind
- Heavy reliance on dice luck for combat resolution.
- WWII combat subject matter may not suit every audience.
- Can feel repetitive across many plays of the same mission.
- Requires careful resource tracking that adds some bookkeeping.
Who it's for
Good for cooperative game fans aged 10+ playing solo or in groups up to four who enjoy tense, thematic dice-management games.
