About the game
Kingdomino is a quick drafting and tile-placement game where each player builds a 5x5 kingdom from domino tiles depicting matching terrain types. Turn order each round is decided by which tile you previously picked, creating an elegant risk-reward tension between grabbing the best tile now and picking first later. Games wrap up in about twenty-five minutes, making it an easy repeat play. Its Spiel des Jahres-winning design has made it a modern family classic.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli considers this one of the best gateway strategy games available - the rules take two minutes to teach, yet there's real spatial planning at stake. It's a reliable pick for family game shelves and a great warm-up game before heavier fare.
What we like
- Extremely easy to teach in minutes.
- Quick twenty-five-minute playtime.
- Elegant turn-order risk-reward mechanism.
- Appeals to all ages and experience levels.
Keep in mind
- Limited player interaction beyond tile drafting.
- May feel too simple for experienced strategy gamers.
- Outcomes are influenced by the luck of the tile draw.
