About the game

Karuba is a simultaneous tile-laying race game for 2-4 players who lead an expedition of four adventurers through a dense jungle toward hidden temples. One player draws and announces path tiles that everyone places on their own identical board, racing to connect their explorers to matching temples while grabbing gold nuggets and crystals along the way. The game ends the moment one player gets all their explorers home or the tile supply runs out, and the player with the most treasure wins. Its shared-tile, simultaneous structure keeps every player engaged throughout, with no downtime waiting for turns.

Hobbli's Notes

Karuba is an excellent family-weight puzzle that keeps everyone building at once rather than waiting through individual turns, which makes it feel fast and satisfying for all ages. The tension of choosing which paths to complete versus save for later adds real decision-making beneath its simple presentation. It's light on direct player interaction since everyone works on their own board, and can feel repetitive after many plays. A great gateway puzzle game for families and younger players.

What we like

  • Simultaneous play eliminates downtime between turns.
  • Simple rules make it accessible to younger players.
  • Rewarding puzzle of choosing which paths to complete first.
  • Quick setup and short playtime suit family game nights.

Keep in mind

  • Limited direct interaction since each player works on their own board.
  • Can feel repetitive after repeated plays.
