About the game
878 Vikings: Invasions of England puts players in command of invading Norse raiders or the English nobles defending their divided kingdom in the year 865. Vikings control freemen and berserkers landing wave after wave from the sea, while English housecarls, thegns, and levied fyrd rally to hold their cities. Area control, command cards, and dice combat drive the conflict as each side races to control the map before the historic Treaty of Wedmore. Variable setups and player powers give every game a different shape.
Hobbli's Notes
A solid entry point into card-driven area-control wargaming, with genuine historical flavor and team-based play that encourages coordination among allies. It asks for a real time commitment and some patience with its rules overhead, but fans of historical conflict games should find plenty to like. The asymmetric Viking-versus-English dynamic keeps both sides feeling distinct.
