About the game
Via Nebula is a semi-cooperative territory-building game set in a mist-shrouded valley. Players clear hexes of mist, open production sites, build transportation networks, and deliver resources to construction sites, sharing paths and goods with rivals along the way. Cooperation is necessary to open up the board, but the race to fulfill valuable contracts turns friendly helpers into competitors. The game ends once a player completes their fifth building, with scoring based on cleared land, opened sites, and contract values.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli appreciates the clever tension Via Nebula creates between mutual benefit and self-interest: every path you clear helps opponents too. It's a satisfying mid-weight euro from Martin Wallace with real strategic bite.
What we like
- Unique cooperate-then-compete dynamic around shared resources.
- Satisfying network and route-building puzzle.
- Accessible rules for a mid-weight strategy game.
- Contract variety keeps games replayable.
Keep in mind
- Shared resources can create analysis paralysis as players plan around each other.
- Interaction is often indirect rather than confrontational.
- Some downtime while waiting for paths and production sites to open.
Who it's for
Good fit for euro-gamers who enjoy route-building and shared-resource tension, in groups of 2-4, teens and up.
