About the game
In Qin, designed by Reiner Knizia, players colonize ancient Chinese hinterlands by placing double-landscape tiles to seize and expand territories. Connecting matching landscapes lets you claim regions, take over rival territories, and link to villages to place pagodas on the board. The first player to place all their pagodas wins this elegant area-majority and tile-placement game. Simple to learn but full of Knizia's signature tight, tactical decisions.
Hobbli's Notes
Classic Knizia: simple rules hiding a genuinely tricky area-control puzzle where every tile placement can shift the balance of territories. It's a quick, satisfying abstract strategy game that rewards spatial thinking without demanding a long time investment.
What we like
- Elegant Knizia design with simple, tight rules.
- Fast 30-minute playtime.
- Territory takeovers create constant tactical tension.
- Scales cleanly for 2-4 players.
Keep in mind
- Abstract theme may feel dry for narrative-focused players.
- Can be swingy when territories flip late in the game.
Who it's for
Good for abstract strategy fans age 8+ in groups of 2-4 who enjoy quick, tactical tile-placement and territory games.
