About the game

Chaos in the Old World lets each player embody one of four Chaos Gods, corrupting and conquering a fantasy world with a unique deck of powers and legions of followers. Players compete to dominate regions, battle rival forces, and fulfill their god's individual path to victory, whether through slaughter, plague, deception, or seduction. The desperate defenders of the Old World fight back throughout, adding a shared threat that all Chaos players must reckon with.

Hobbli's Notes

Chaos in the Old World is a fantastic area-control game precisely because its four factions are so wildly different from one another. The theme and mechanics reinforce each other beautifully, and the constant conflict keeps every player engaged from start to finish.

What we like

  • Four wildly asymmetric gods each with a unique path to victory.
  • Strong thematic integration of corruption and battle mechanics.
  • High player interaction keeps every game tense.
  • Event deck adds unpredictable narrative twists.

Keep in mind

  • Aggressive conflict can feel harsh for newer players.
  • Rules complexity may intimidate first-time players.
  • Playtime can run long, especially at higher player counts.

Who it's for

Best for experienced gamers ages 13 and up, in groups of three to four, who enjoy direct conflict and asymmetric area-control strategy.
