About the game
Blood Rage sends players' Viking clans into Ragnarök, the final battle before the end of the world, where glorious death is as valuable as victory. Through a card draft at the start of each of the three Ages, players collect Gods' Gifts that boost their clan, grant quests, or summon mythological creatures. Area-control battles decide who controls key provinces, with secret combat cards adding bluffing and prediction to every clash. It's a thematic area-majority and drafting game for 2-4 players built around aggressive conflict and mythic set pieces.
Hobbli's Notes
Blood Rage remains a standout for its willingness to let losing be rewarding: quests for glorious defeat make every battle interesting regardless of outcome. Striking miniatures and Norse mythology theming give it strong table presence, making it a great gateway into area-control conflict games.
What we like
- Innovative design where losing battles can still be strategically rewarding.
- Strong Norse mythology theme reinforced by excellent miniatures.
- Card draft creates varied strategies and interesting decision points each game.
- Fast-paced conflict keeps games from dragging despite area-control mechanics.
Keep in mind
- High player interaction and aggression may not suit conflict-averse players.
- Card draft can occasionally lead to imbalanced hands.
- Map reduction over the game can create runaway leader situations.
Who it's for
Great for gamers aged 14+ who enjoy thematic conflict and area control; best with 3-4 players for a satisfying 90-minute battle.
