About the game

Ra: The Dice Game reimagines the classic auction game Ra using dice instead of bidding tiles. Each player rolls five dice, rerolling as needed, and uses the results to claim civilization, monument, and Nile squares, or to advance the Ra die that ends the current epoch. A joker side and color-specific claiming rules add tactical texture to each roll. Across three epochs, players collect Pharaohs, floods, and civilizations to build the highest score by game's end.

Hobbli's Notes

Ra: The Dice Game is a clever, faster-playing cousin to the original: Reiner Knizia's design instincts translate the auction tension into push-your-luck dice rolling remarkably well. It's an easy teach that still rewards clever risk assessment each round. A great choice when your group wants Ra's flavor without the auction overhead.

What we like

  • Clever dice-based reimagining of classic Ra mechanics.
  • Quick 45-minute playtime.
  • Easy to teach with satisfying push-your-luck decisions.
  • Colorful ancient Egypt theme.

Keep in mind

  • Heavy reliance on dice luck.
  • Three-epoch structure can feel repetitive over time.
  • Less strategic depth than the original Ra.

Who it's for

Good for families and casual gamers aged 10+ who enjoy push-your-luck dice games, playing 2-4 players.
