About the game
Middle-Earth Quest is set roughly a decade after Bilbo Baggins leaves the Shire, in the growing darkness before the Fellowship's journey begins. One player takes on the role of Sauron, spreading evil influence across Middle-earth, while up to three others play heroes like a Gondorian Captain or a Rider from the Westfold, working to foil his plots. Hand management, movement, and variable player powers drive a richly thematic asymmetric struggle steeped in Tolkien lore. It's a one-against-many adventure and conflict game built around exploration and narrative event cards.
Hobbli's Notes
An underrated Tolkien-themed adventure game that captures the atmosphere of Middle-earth impressively well, thanks to strong asymmetric design and event-driven storytelling. The one-versus-many structure can occasionally feel imbalanced depending on player skill, but the immersion largely makes up for it. It's out of print now, so expect a longer hunt to find a copy.
What we like

- Distinctive asymmetric one-versus-many gameplay.
- Variety of hero abilities and quests to pursue.
- Immersive narrative events shape each playthrough.
Keep in mind
- Long playtime with heavy rules overhead.
- Risk of imbalance in the one-versus-many design.
- Out of print and difficult to find.
