About the game

Mansions of Madness sends a team of investigators into cursed manors, crypts, and derelict buildings near Arkham, Massachusetts, hunting for the truth behind living nightmares. One player takes on the role of the keeper, secretly controlling monsters and story events, while the others explore, search for clues, and battle to survive with their minds intact. Each story features a unique map with combinations of plot threads that determine the monsters faced and the ending achieved. Investigators must uncover the mystery before it consumes them.

Hobbli's Notes

Mansions of Madness delivers a richly thematic Lovecraftian horror crawl, with the asymmetric keeper role letting the story react dynamically to the investigators' choices. Its variable plot threads and scenarios reward multiple playthroughs of the same map. It does require a dedicated keeper willing to run the scenario and comes with real setup and rules overhead, something the later app-driven second edition was designed to streamline.
