About the game
In this cooperative classic by Reiner Knizia, players take on the roles of Hobbits in the Fellowship, working together to destroy the One Ring while resisting Sauron's corrupting influence. The journey unfolds across four iconic conflict boards, Moria, Helm's Deep, Shelob's Lair, and Mordor, where quest cards advance the Fellowship along tracks representing fighting, hiding, traveling, and friendship. A master board tracks both physical progress and rising corruption, and using the One Ring offers helpful power at the risk of drawing Sauron's attention. If the corruption track ever catches the Ring-bearer, all players lose together.
Hobbli's Notes
This remains one of the defining cooperative games of its era, and Knizia's design elegantly ties thematic tension to its mechanics: every use of the Ring is a genuine risk/reward decision. The shared loss condition creates real stakes and encourages the table to strategize together rather than in isolation. A must-own classic for cooperative game fans and Tolkien fans alike.

- Four distinct conflict boards keep the journey varied.
Keep in mind
- Player elimination can leave a Hobbit sidelined before the game ends.
