About the game

This second Master Set for the Heroscape series brings a swampy new battlefield to the modular hex-tile system, complete with 24 miniature figures and 75 interlocking terrain pieces. Units move across stackable terrain using simple movement and combat dice rolls, with attack skulls needing to beat defense shields to inflict wounds. The set introduces the Marro Hive, a spawning threat tied to Common Marro Squads, alongside seven unique heroes. Its point-based drafting system lets players build custom armies for scenario or open battles, and the modular terrain means every game board can look completely different.

Hobbli's Notes

Heroscape remains a beloved gateway into miniatures wargaming thanks to its dead-simple dice combat and endlessly reconfigurable modular terrain. This Master Set's swamp terrain and Marro Hive give it a distinct flavor from the original release. It's fantastic for families and younger players who want the thrill of tactical combat without a steep rules learning curve.

What we like

  • Modular hex terrain lets you build a new battlefield every game.
  • Simple dice-based combat is easy for kids and adults alike to learn.
  • Point-based army drafting adds replayable customization.
  • Compatible with a large ecosystem of other Heroscape sets.

Keep in mind

  • Requires table space to build and store terrain and miniatures.
  • Random dice combat can feel swingy in smaller battles.
  • Out-of-print status makes completing a collection difficult.
