About the game
Taluva is an abstract tile-laying game where players build volcanic islands from the sea, deciding whether to expand the shoreline or raise existing land higher with each new tile. Settlements of huts, temples, and towers grow according to strict placement rules, with volcanic eruptions sometimes destroying rival buildings in the process. The game ends when either all tiles are placed or a player achieves a sudden-death victory by placing all buildings of two types. It's a tight, elegant strategy puzzle with real spatial tension.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editors admire Taluva's clean, elegant ruleset that generates surprisingly deep spatial strategy - every tile placement affects both terrain and the fate of nearby settlements. The sudden-death victory condition keeps players alert throughout, since the game can end abruptly. It's a quick play that rewards careful foresight more than luck. A great choice for fans of abstract strategy who want something more thematic than pure abstracts but lighter than a full euro.
