About the game

Warrior Knights casts 2 to 6 players as rival Barons scrambling to seize the throne after the King's death, commanding armies of Nobles to capture cities and grow their political Influence. Each turn, players secretly select two tasks, such as attacking, gathering votes, hiring mercenaries, or collecting taxes, which are then shuffled together so the true order of actions stays unknown until it plays out. Special phases like Parliament sessions, mercenary auctions, and tax collection trigger dynamically based on how often players choose related tasks. With a hefty 240-minute playtime and deep negotiation, diplomacy, and combat, it's a sprawling medieval political wargame. Careful cunning and strategic timing are essential to claim the crown.

Hobbli's Notes

The randomized task-order system is genuinely clever, forcing players to plan without knowing exactly when their actions will resolve. We appreciate how the dynamically triggered Parliament, tax, and mercenary phases keep the political tension unpredictable throughout. This is a heavy commitment game that rewards a table willing to negotiate and scheme over several hours. It's best suited to groups who already enjoy long-form political wargames.

What we like

  • An inventive simultaneous task-selection system creates unpredictable turn order each round.
  • Deep political negotiation layered on top of military conquest.
  • Multiple interacting economic systems, from taxation to mercenary wages, keep every round tense.
  • Large-scale medieval battles for control of the kingdom's cities.

Keep in mind

  • A very long playtime of about four hours demands a committed group.
  • High rules overhead and unpredictable phase triggers can overwhelm newcomers.
  • Downtime between turns may be significant for larger player counts.

Who it's for

Best suited to experienced strategy gamers aged 14+ willing to commit around four hours to deep political and military maneuvering in groups of 2-6.
