About the game
Empire of the Sun is a card-driven wargame covering the entire Pacific Theater of World War II, from Pearl Harbor to Japan's surrender, on a single sweeping map. Players guide either the Japanese or Allied forces, using cards to trigger operations, events, and reinforcements while carefully hiding their strategic intentions. A two-tiered combat system resolves air-naval battles before ground combat, and the outcome hinges on U.S. political will as much as raw military strength. Designed by Mark Herman, it's considered one of the finest card-driven wargames ever produced.
Hobbli's Notes
Empire of the Sun is a landmark in the card-driven wargame genre: deeply strategic, historically rich, and rewarding for players willing to invest the time to master it. This is a serious commitment, but one of the most respected two-player wargames on the market.
