About the game
Survive The Island puts players in charge of evacuating their people from a sinking, forty-tile island paradise before it's swallowed by the sea. As hex tiles are removed and the island shrinks, players race to ferry their valuable adventurers to safety by swimming or rafting: all while dodging sea serpents, kaiju, and sharks lurking in the water. Every person you save adds to your score, but higher-value survivors are worth the most risk. It's a tense, cutthroat race against the clock and each other.
Hobbli's Notes
This plays like a spiritual successor to classic sinking-island escape games, adding modern touches like modular hex tiles and lurking sea monsters. The shrinking board creates escalating tension as safe spaces vanish turn by turn. It's best enjoyed by groups who don't mind a little schadenfreude when a rival's prized adventurer gets eaten. As a newer release, some of its long-term replay value is still being discovered.
What we like
- Shrinking island creates mounting, escalating tension each round.
- Competing to save higher-value survivors adds meaningful risk decisions.
- Sea monster hazards keep movement choices tense and unpredictable.
- Modular board setup offers variety across plays.
Keep in mind
- Player elimination of pieces can feel harsh for younger players.
- As a newer title, long-term replayability is still uncertain.
- Take-that interactions may frustrate players who dislike direct conflict.
