About the game

Ironwood pits the industrious Ironclad against the ferocious Woodwalkers in an asymmetric, card-driven battle for the land's magical crystals. Each round you and your opponent alternate playing faction-specific cards for movement, combat, and unique abilities, then use those same cards for their combat values when armies clash. The two factions play, win, and even move completely differently, keeping every match feeling fresh. A low-upkeep solo mode lets one player face off against an AI-driven opponent for either faction.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli is impressed by how much asymmetry Ironwood packs into a rules-light, 60-minute package. It scratches the same itch as bigger conflict games without the setup and rules overhead, and the included solo mode is a nice bonus for tabletop gamers without a regular opponent.

What we like

  • Deeply asymmetric factions with different win conditions and map access.
  • Rules-light design keeps a full game under an hour.
  • Built-in solo mode adds replay value beyond head-to-head play.
  • Dual-use cards for both actions and combat create tight decisions.

Keep in mind

  • Strictly a two-player game with no scaling for groups.
  • Learning two very different rule sets can slow the first few plays.
  • Thin narrative dressing over what is fundamentally an abstract conflict engine.

Who it's for

Great for two-player strategy fans aged 12+ who want a quick, tactical duel with genuine faction asymmetry, plus solo players thanks to its bot mode.
