About the game

Hera and Zeus pits two Greek gods against each other in a battle to rescue their kidnapped mortal favorites. Players build opposing three-column, four-row matrices of face-down cards, engaging in combat along the leading edges where combat values are compared and losers destroyed. Since cards are played hidden until engaged, bluffing and doubt run through every clash. Designed by Richard Borg as part of the Kosmos two-player series, victory comes from eliminating your opponent's columns, capturing their hostage card, or locking up their available actions.

Hobbli's Notes

This is a tight, clever two-player bluffing game with real teeth, hiding your card strength until the moment of combat forces constant mind games about what your opponent is holding. As part of the well-regarded Kosmos two-player line, it delivers a lot of tactical tension in a short 30-minute package. It's abstract enough in presentation that the Greek mythology theme feels more like flavor than a deeply integrated story.

What we like

  • Clever hidden-card bluffing creates constant tension.
  • Fast 30-minute playtime with low downtime.
  • Multiple win conditions add tactical variety.
  • Part of the well-regarded Kosmos two-player series.

Keep in mind

  • Strictly two-player, so it can't include a larger group.
  • Mythology theme feels more like flavor than deep integration.
  • Bluffing-heavy play may frustrate players who prefer pure strategy.
