About the game

Battle Line is a two-player card game where opponents compete to win five of nine flags by forming poker-like hand combinations - straights, flushes, three of a kinds - on either side of each flag. Players carefully manage a hand of seven cards, deciding when to commit cards to a flag and when to hold back, while special tactics cards can twist the usual rules. It's a rethemed version of the classic Schotten Totten with the same tight, tactical gameplay. A quick thirty-minute playtime makes it easy to fit in repeated sessions.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli sees this as a genuine Knizia classic - elegant rules that produce surprisingly deep tactical reading of your opponent's hand. It remains a go-to two-player card game decades after release, ideal for anyone who wants quick, sharp head-to-head competition.

What we like

  • Quick thirty-minute playtime.
  • Deep tactical decisions from simple rules.
  • Highly portable, ideal for travel.
  • Excellent head-to-head replayability.

Keep in mind

  • Strictly limited to two players.
  • Tactics cards add variance some purists dislike.
  • Abstract presentation offers limited thematic engagement.
