About the game
Tower Up puts 2-4 players in charge of rival architecture firms racing to redevelop a city's downtown. On your turn you either draft a card to gain resources or spend those resources to raise a new building, paying costs to adjacent structures and topping it with a roof. Careful resource planning matters since every choice you skip is an opportunity for a competitor. It's a quick, approachable city-building game that plays in about 45 minutes.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli sees Tower Up as an accessible entry point into city-building games thanks to its light rules and short playtime. The adjacency-based construction costs create some clever spatial puzzling without heavy complexity. As a newer release, it hasn't built up a long track record yet, so some of its long-term replay value is still unproven. Still, it's a pleasant, easy-to-teach option for a casual table.
What we like
- Quick, approachable city-building concept easy to teach.
- Drafting mechanic adds meaningful tactical choices each turn.
- Adjacency-based building costs create light spatial puzzles.
- Accessible to younger or newer players (min age 8).
Keep in mind
- As a newer release, it lacks an established community track record.
- Downtime can rise a bit with a full four-player table (downtime grade C).
- Theme integration is fairly light compared to its mechanics.
Who it's for
Good for families and casual gamers aged 8+ in groups of 2-4 looking for a light, quick city-building game.
