About the game

New York 1901 sends 2-4 players back to the dawn of the Manhattan skyline, drafting location cards and placing Tetris-shaped tiles to build increasingly tall skyscrapers. Bronze-level buildings can later be replaced by silver and gold versions, raising your real estate empire's value. Players compete to construct one of four legendary landmark skyscrapers, the Park Row, Singer, Metropolitan Life, or Woolworth Building, to crown their portfolio. It's a tile-placement game about area majority and urban development in historic New York.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editors enjoy the tactile satisfaction of stacking Tetris-shaped building tiles in New York 1901, and the tension of drafting the right location cards each round. The gradual upgrade from bronze to gold buildings gives a nice sense of city growth over the game. It's an accessible, visually appealing tile-placement game that's easy to teach newcomers. A solid family-friendly city-building pick.
