About the game
Creature Caravan sends players across the dangerous land of Arzium, building a tableau of creature cards while racing toward the safe haven of Eastrey. Using simultaneous turns, players place dice on actions within their own card tableau, move their caravan across a modular map, trade goods in a shared market, and fend off ember zombies along the way. The game ends the moment one player's caravan reaches the city, with the highest score claiming victory. With Ryan Laukat's signature whimsical art and worldbuilding, it's an adventurous engine-building game for 1-4 (up to 6 with an expansion).
Hobbli's Notes
Ryan Laukat's art and lore continue to be a huge draw, and Creature Caravan layers a satisfying tableau-building engine on top of it. Simultaneous turns keep the pace brisk even as the game grows in complexity, which is a nice touch for a game with this much going on. It's not the deepest strategy game on the shelf, but the sense of discovery carries it a long way.
What we like
- Beautiful, distinctive art and worldbuilding from Ryan Laukat.
- Simultaneous turns keep downtime low despite the game's complexity.
- Flexible player count with a supported solo mode.
- Satisfying engine-building as your creature tableau grows.
Keep in mind
- Card variety and market randomness can create some imbalance between games.
- Rules include some fiddly bookkeeping around dice and actions.
- Moderate learning curve for players new to tableau-builders.
Who it's for
Fantasy-loving families and hobbyist gamers who enjoy tableau building; supports solo play up to 4 players (6 with expansion).
