About the game
Near and Far sends you and up to three friends across ever-changing maps in search of the legendary Last Ruin. You'll recruit adventurers, hunt for treasure, and read from a book of storytelling encounters that make every journey unique. As a sequel to Above and Below, it blends worker placement, exploration, and narrative choice into a rich campaign experience spanning multiple linked sessions. Gorgeous painted artwork brings its fantasy world vividly to life.
Hobbli's Notes
Near and Far is a treat for groups who want their euro-style worker placement wrapped in real storytelling: the choose-your-own-adventure encounters give every playthrough a personal narrative. The campaign structure across multiple maps offers wonderful variety, though the many moving parts can slow new players down at first.
What we like
- Storytelling encounters give the game a genuine narrative arc.
- Multiple unique maps add tons of long-term replayability.
- Beautiful Ryan Laukat artwork enhances the exploration theme.
- Blends worker placement with adventure in a satisfying way.
Keep in mind
- Many subsystems can overwhelm first-time players.
- Some downtime while other players plan their routes.
- Campaign structure requires a committed group to fully experience.
Who it's for
