About the game

Imperial Miners is a light-to-medium engine-building card game for 1 to 5 players, set in the Imperial Settlers universe. Players excavate their own tableau-mine card by card, triggering satisfying chain reactions each time a new card is added. Six factions and three randomly chosen progress boards each game keep strategies fresh and combos flowing. With simultaneous turns, games move quickly and rarely run past 45 minutes despite the tactical depth.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's team loves how Imperial Miners distills the tableau-building joy of Imperial Settlers into a tighter, faster package. The chain-reaction card activations feel rewarding even on a first play, and the modular progress boards give it real replay value. It's an easy recommend for players who want engine-building satisfaction without a long time commitment. Solo players will also appreciate how well it holds up alone.

What we like

  • Satisfying chain-reaction card activations reward clever tableau building.
  • Simultaneous turns keep downtime low even at five players.
  • Modular progress boards and mixed factions give strong replayability.
  • Solid solo mode for 1-player games.
  • Approachable rules make it easy to teach new players.

Keep in mind

  • Card draw luck can limit how far a strategy develops.
  • Thematic connection to Imperial Settlers may feel thin as a standalone.
  • Some players may find the tableau puzzle repetitive after many plays.
