About the game
Res Arcana casts players as powerful mages gathering essences of Life, Death, Elan, Calm, and Gold to craft artifacts, summon dragons, and claim mystical places of power. Over four to six tense rounds, you'll balance collecting resources, building your engine of artifacts, and racing to be the first to reach the victory point threshold. Turn order matters enormously, since going later grants better rewards but less initiative. Designed by Race for the Galaxy creator Thomas Lehmann, it delivers tight, elegant engine-building with real depth in a compact card-based package.
Hobbli's Notes
Res Arcana is a masterclass in tight design: every card interacts with the shared essence economy in ways that reward careful planning and adaptive play. The turn-order mechanism (choosing to go first for safety or last for reward) is a clever tension that keeps every round interesting. It plays fast for its depth, but the sheer number of unique cards and combos can be overwhelming for newcomers.
