About the game
Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest reimagines Paolo Mori's 2012 classic as sky pirates competing for loot across a shifting fleet of floating islands. Each round, players simultaneously select crew characters whose abilities resolve in a fixed order, creating a delightful puzzle of prediction and bluffing as you try to outguess your rivals. A revised reputation system breaks ties, while 40 unique characters per player and deluxe loot tokens add variety and replayability. The included solo mode makes it playable even without a full crew of opponents. New art and expanded content refresh the beloved design for a new generation of players.
Hobbli's Notes
Libertalia has always been a favorite for its 'programmed simultaneous action' tension, and Winds of Galecrest polishes that experience with gorgeous new art and a much-needed reputation system for ties. Predicting what your opponents will play, and getting punished when you guess wrong, never stops being fun. A great pick for groups who enjoy light bluffing wrapped in a swashbuckling theme.
What we like
- Simultaneous character selection creates constant bluffing tension.
- 40 unique characters per player offer deep replayability.
- Reputation system elegantly resolves ties from the original design.
- Solo mode extends the game's value beyond group play.
Keep in mind
- Programmed-action resolution can be confusing for first-time players.
- Player elimination-style loot losses can sting when outguessed.
- Some may find the update a lighter reskin rather than a deep revision.
Who it's for
Great for ages 14 and up, groups of 1-6 who enjoy bluffing, prediction, and pirate-themed card play.
