About the game

Coup is a fast-paced bluffing game where players vie for political power in a corrupt Italian city-state, using hidden character roles to bribe, assassinate, and manipulate their way to dominance. Every character action can be claimed regardless of what you actually hold, daring opponents to call your bluff. Losing a challenge costs you influence, and the last player standing wins. Its simple rules and merciless social deduction make it endlessly replayable in short bursts.

Hobbli's Notes

Coup is a masterclass in minimalist bluffing design: a handful of cards and a few coins create enormous tension and social deduction depth. It plays fast enough to squeeze in multiple rounds, and the escalating bluffing arms race never gets old. A must-have for any group that enjoys reading people as much as reading cards.

What we like

  • Extremely fast rounds make it easy to play multiple times in a sitting.
  • Elegant, minimalist rules hide deep bluffing strategy.
  • High player interaction through constant challenges and bluffs.
  • Scales well from small to larger groups.

Keep in mind

  • Player elimination can leave early-out players waiting.
  • Aggressive players can gang up on a perceived leader.
  • Luck of the draw can occasionally overshadow skillful bluffing.
