About the game
Resist! is a fast-playing solo card game that puts you in command of the Spanish Maquis, guerrilla fighters resisting Franco's regime after the Spanish Civil War. You assemble a twelve-member team represented by cards, then send them on increasingly dangerous missions while managing the tension between staying hidden and revealing your fighters' full power. Revealed Maquis are stronger but permanently lost from your deck, creating a 'deck-destruction' puzzle rather than traditional deck-building. Each round you must decide whether to press on or end the resistance while you still can.
Hobbli's Notes
Resist! packs surprising emotional and tactical weight into a 40-minute solo experience. The reverse deck-building idea, burning your best cards to win now at the cost of your future, creates real, gut-wrenching decisions round after round. It's a fantastic pick-up-and-play solo game with a genuinely moving historical theme, though it obviously won't work for anyone wanting a multiplayer table game.
What we like
- Tense hidden-vs-revealed decision creates constant drama.
- Quick 40-minute playtime suits solo sessions well.
- Strong historical theme woven directly into mechanics.
- Deck-destruction twist offers a fresh spin on deckbuilding.
Keep in mind
- Strictly single-player, so it won't work for group game nights.
- Thematic subject matter (civil war repression) may not suit all audiences.
- Limited replayability once the campaign missions are exhausted.
Who it's for
Ages 10+ solo gamers who enjoy tense, story-driven card games with light deck management; a great choice for solitaire game nights.
