About the game
Friday is a solitaire deckbuilding game that puts you in the role of Robinson Crusoe's loyal companion, defending him from the island's dangers after his shipwreck. On each turn, you attempt to defeat hazard cards using fight cards from your personal deck; success adds the hazard to your deck as a new resource, while failure costs life points but lets you trim unwanted cards instead. Over the course of the game you refine and optimize your deck, ultimately preparing it to take on two dangerous pirate ships in a final showdown. Designed by Friedemann Friese, it packs a full deckbuilding arc into a small box and a playtime of around 25 minutes. It's built entirely for one player, with no multiplayer mode at all.
Hobbli's Notes
Friday is one of the best single-player-only deckbuilders on the market, distilling deck-thinning strategy into a genuinely tight puzzle. The push-and-pull between fighting hazards for cards versus culling your deck of clutter is deceptively deep for such a small game. It's an easy travel companion thanks to its size and quick setup, though the difficulty curve can be brutal for first-timers. A great pick for solo gamers looking for something meatier than a simple card game.
