About the game
Power Plants is a light-to-medium tile-placement puzzle in which wizards secretly cultivate a shared magical garden. Each turn you add a patch tile and choose whether to trigger its stronger unique "plant" power or the weaker shared "grow" powers affecting neighboring tiles, then deploy loyal sprites to claim influence over the growing garden. As the garden expands, careful positioning determines who controls the most valuable patches once everything is in full bloom. Area-majority scoring layered onto tile placement rewards both immediate tactics and longer-term planning. It plays quickly and supports solo play as well as groups of up to five.
Hobbli's Notes
Power Plants offers a charming, whimsical take on area-majority games, with a garden-growing theme that feels fresh rather than generic. The dual plant-vs-grow power choice adds a nice layer of tactical tension each turn without bloating the rules. At around 30 minutes, it's a good "one more game" puzzle that doesn't overstay its welcome. It may not break new ground mechanically, but the execution and theme make it an easy recommend for fans of light area-control games.
What we like
- Clever dual-power tile mechanism adds meaningful choices each turn.
- Quick 30-minute playtime keeps games brisk and replayable.
- Scales smoothly from solo to five players.
- Whimsical magical-garden theme stands out among area-control games.
Keep in mind
- Area-majority scoring may feel abstract despite the theme.
- Limited long-term strategic depth compared to heavier tile-placement games.
- Interaction may feel indirect for players who want more direct conflict.
