About the game
Halls of Hegra is a solitaire-only wargame casting you as the commander of Norwegian volunteers defending an abandoned mountain fortress against overwhelming German forces in the early days of World War II. Across three escalating stages, mobilization, the first attack on the village below, and the final siege, you'll manage worker placement, bag-building, and area control to keep morale and supplies flowing under constant assault. Every decision about patrols, defenses, and resource allocation determines whether your outnumbered garrison survives. It's an intense, historically grounded solo experience in the vein of Robinson Crusoe.
Hobbli's Notes
This is a rare gem for solo gamers, a true one-player-only wargame that captures the desperation of a historical last stand with real narrative weight. The three-stage structure builds tension beautifully, escalating from exploration to full siege warfare. Its solitaire-only design means it won't work for group game nights, but for solo wargamers it's a standout.
What we like
- Genuinely tense, narrative-driven solo wargame experience.
- Three-stage campaign structure builds escalating stakes.
- Combines worker placement, bag-building, and area control in a fresh way.
- Grounded historical setting of Norway's WWII resistance adds emotional weight.
Keep in mind
- Strictly solitaire-only, so it can't be played with a group.
- High complexity and thematic weight may be intense for casual players.
- Historical WWII siege theme may not suit players seeking lighter fare.
