About the game
Cartographers Heroes is a competitive paper-and-pencil map-drawing game where players simultaneously fill in their own map sheets based on shared explore cards. New hero abilities and ambush cards from monster invasions add fresh wrinkles to the original Cartographers formula, letting players score points for completed regions, edicts, and clever tile-shape puzzling. It plays quickly, supports up to a huge number of players, and can be combined with the original Cartographers for even more variety. It's an easy-to-teach, replayable game of spatial puzzle-solving under time pressure.
Hobbli's Notes
This is one of the best 'everyone plays at once' games we recommend for larger groups, since the simultaneous drawing means nobody waits around for their turn. The hero and ambush additions give it a bit more bite than the original Cartographers without adding much rules overhead.
What we like
- Quick to teach and finishes comfortably within 45 minutes.
- Simultaneous play means no downtime waiting for other players.
- Solid solo mode for practicing or playing alone.
- New hero and ambush cards add fresh tactical decisions.
Keep in mind
- Feels quite similar to the original Cartographers for owners of that game.
- Limited direct interaction between players.
- Scoring can swing based on the luck of card draws.
Who it's for
Great for ages 10+ who enjoy quick, low-conflict puzzle games, playing solo or in groups as large as the table can hold.
