About the game
Set a Watch: Swords of the Coin is a standalone cooperative adventure that can also expand the original Set a Watch. Four mercenaries band together to defend the Kingdom, taking turns resting at camp, earning coin, and purchasing gear from a traveling Merchant to prepare for battle. Each round sends the party to new locations to gather resources before a wave of creatures threatens the campfire. With brand-new characters and items, it offers a fresh roster of heroes to master. Keep the watch burning, or the darkness wins.
Hobbli's Notes
Set a Watch built its reputation on genuinely tense, tightly designed cooperative dungeon-crawling with real solo-play chops, and Swords of the Coin delivers more of that same formula with a new cast and mechanics layer. Hobbli's team likes that downtime stays low even with a full table, since everyone stays engaged watching the shared threat unfold. It rewards careful resource and character management over brute force, making it a favorite for co-op fans who like their games lean and replayable.
What we like
- Extremely low downtime keeps every player engaged even at full player count.
- Strong solo mode makes it just as enjoyable played alone.
- New characters and items add fresh strategic options to the Set a Watch system.
- Compact box and quick setup make it easy to bring to the table often.
Keep in mind
- Requires the original Set a Watch for full expansion content, though it also plays standalone.
- Cooperative games can suffer from one player quarterbacking decisions.
- Fantasy dungeon-crawl theme is fairly familiar territory.
Who it's for
Great for ages 10+ solo players or groups of up to 4 who enjoy cooperative dungeon-crawling with light strategy and low downtime.
