About the game

Mystic Vale sends druidic clans to cleanse a curse afflicting the Valley of Life, using a deckbuilding system unlike any other. Instead of simply adding cards to your deck, its 'Card Crafting System' lets you layer clear plastic advancement cards directly onto your base cards, physically building custom abilities into each one. Each turn, you play cards into your field to gain resources and vale cards, but push too hard and accumulating decay will cut your turn short. Careful layering rewards players who balance power against risk, since overloaded cards become useless once decay takes hold. It's a fresh spin on deckbuilding that plays in a brisk 45 minutes for 2 to 4 players.

Hobbli's Notes

Mystic Vale's card-crafting system is a genuinely clever twist on deckbuilding: literally building your own custom cards card by card is something few other games attempt. The decay mechanic adds a nice push-your-luck tension that keeps every turn interesting. It plays faster than most deckbuilders, which makes it easy to bring to the table more often. The main quirk is the clear plastic sleeves show wear faster than paper cards, so a bit of care in handling goes a long way.

What we like

  • Innovative card-crafting and layering system.
  • Satisfying push-your-luck decay mechanic.
  • Faster playtime than most deckbuilders.
  • Attractive fantasy art and production.

Keep in mind

  • Clear card layers can show wear over time.
  • Decay mechanic can feel punishing to new players.
  • Scoring paths can feel somewhat narrow.

Who it's for

Great for deckbuilding fans ages 14+ in groups of 2 to 4 who enjoy a fresh mechanical twist on a familiar genre.
