About the game
Fantasy Realms is a fast card game about building the highest-scoring hand of fantasy characters and artifacts through clever combos. On your turn you simply draw a card and discard a card, choosing from the deck or the discard pile, refining your hand toward powerful synergies. Certain cards boost or cancel out others, so the same card can be a huge asset in one hand and a liability in another. The game ends once ten cards have been discarded, and the highest-scoring hand wins. It's an elegant, quick-playing game with surprisingly deep combo potential.
Hobbli's Notes
Fantasy Realms packs a remarkable amount of decision-making into a tiny deck of cards: learning which combos synergize and which cancel each other out is genuinely satisfying. It plays in about twenty minutes but rewards repeated plays as you learn the card interactions. New players may feel at a disadvantage against those who've memorized the deck, so a rules reminder or app helps early on. A fantastic portable option for gamers who love tight, combo-driven card games.
What we like
- Extremely fast to teach yet deep in combo-based scoring.
- No components beyond a card deck, making it very portable.
- High replayability thanks to many card interactions.
- Scales smoothly from two players up to six.
Keep in mind
- Some cards create swingy point ceilings that can feel unbalanced.
- Requires memorizing card interactions to play at full strength.
- Limited direct player interaction beyond hand optimization.
Who it's for
Great for card game enthusiasts aged 14+, in groups of 2-6 who enjoy quick, combo-driven hand-building games.
