About the game
Dice Realms has players building and upgrading a medieval kingdom represented by customizable dice, popping out weaker faces for stronger ones as their realm grows. Each round, everyone rolls their dice alongside a shared Fate die that can trigger attacks, harsh winters, or other kingdom-wide events. Rolled faces generate victory points, grain, coins, and defense, which players spend on upgrades, new dice, or protective tokens. With randomized setup tiles determining which extra die faces are available, no two games unfold quite the same way.
Hobbli's Notes
Designer Thomas Lehmann translates deckbuilding logic onto dice faces in a really satisfying way: watching your dice slowly transform into a specialized engine is deeply gratifying. The Fate die keeps things from feeling too solitaire, injecting real tension into an otherwise builder-focused game.
What we like
- Innovative dice-upgrading system blends deckbuilding logic with dice mechanics.
- Randomized setup tiles keep every game meaningfully different.
- Largely simultaneous play keeps downtime low.
- Satisfying long-term engine-building progression.
Keep in mind
- Popping die faces in and out can be fiddly bookkeeping.
- The shared Fate die can create swingy, sometimes unfair attacks.
- Moderate complexity may overwhelm players new to engine-building games.
Who it's for
Great for strategy gamers aged 14 and up who enjoy deckbuilding and dice-crafting, playing solo or in groups of up to 4.
