About the game

Ankh: Gods of Egypt casts players as rival gods of ancient Egypt fighting to remain the last one worshipped as society forgets the old ways. You'll build caravans, summon powerful monsters, and convert followers to grow your influence across the map. Area majority battles decide who controls key regions, and combat is fully non-random, rewarding tactical planning over dice luck. Shifting alliances mean today's ally could be tomorrow's target. Gorgeous miniatures and Egyptian mythology bring real spectacle to the table.

Hobbli's Notes

Eric Lang has a real talent for area-control games with sharp decision points, and Ankh delivers with its streamlined, dice-free combat. The alliance mechanic keeps the political temperature high without letting any one player run away unchecked for long. It asks for a full table and some buy-in on the theme and miniatures to really shine. A strong pick for groups who already enjoy Blood Rage or Rising Sun.

What we like

  • Non-random combat rewards tactical skill over luck.
  • Dynamic alliance system keeps the political situation fluid.
  • Gorgeous miniatures and strong Egyptian mythology theme.
  • Multiple viable strategies for gaining influence.

Keep in mind

  • Area-control games can suffer from kingmaker dynamics.
  • Requires a full table and table space for minis and board.
  • Moderate rules overhead for players new to the genre.
  • Best experienced with the full player count, which can be hard to arrange.

Who it's for

Best for competitive strategy gamers aged 14+ in groups of 3-5 who enjoy area control and shifting alliances.
