About the game

Sub Terra II: Inferno's Edge is a cooperative adventure game in which one to six players explore a tile-based volcanic temple to steal a legendary artifact and escape before the volcano erupts. As players progressively reveal new tiles, they must dodge deadly traps, cross scorching lava, and battle the temple's guardians while gathering three keys needed to reach the inner sanctum. A random hazard triggers after every player's turn, so careful planning becomes essential to staying ahead of the mounting danger. Players can stick together to combine skills or split up to cover more ground, adding a real tension between safety and speed. It's a tense, escalating race against a volcano that's actively trying to kill you.

Hobbli's Notes

This is a standout cooperative adventure that layers real tension onto its tile-exploration core through the escalating lava mechanic. The push to split up versus stay together creates genuine, replayable tactical decisions each session. It comfortably supports a strong solo experience too, which is a nice bonus for a game this thematic. Groups who enjoy cooperative games with a ticking clock will find a lot to like here.

What we like

  • Tense cooperative exploration with escalating danger.
  • Modular tile-based temple keeps every game fresh.
  • Strong solo mode for a fully thematic solo experience.
  • Variable player powers add asymmetric strategy.
  • High production values and immersive theming.

Keep in mind

  • Can suffer from a dominant 'quarterback' player.
  • Tile draw luck can swing the difficulty significantly.
  • 75-minute sessions can run long if things go badly.

Who it's for
