About the game
Sub Terra is a cooperative cave-escape game where players explore a randomly assembled tunnel system, racing against darkness and danger to reach the surface before disaster strikes. Each player takes on a specialist role, like the Engineer who can blast new paths or the Scout who finds routes quickly, and must manage limited resources like light and health. Hazard cards steadily escalate the tension as floods, gas leaks, and cave-ins threaten the team. It's a tense, atmospheric survival game built for tight cooperative play.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team enjoys how Sub Terra generates genuine dread through its randomized tile exploration and dwindling light and hazard decks. The specialist roles encourage real teamwork and communication under pressure. It plays fairly quickly, making it easy to slot into a game night alongside other titles. The cooperative puzzle can occasionally feel unforgiving if the tile draws go badly.
What we like
- Randomized tunnel tiles keep every escape attempt unique.
- Specialist roles encourage genuine team coordination.
- Escalating hazard deck builds strong tension throughout.
- Quick playtime fits easily into a full game night.
Keep in mind
- Difficulty can swing heavily based on tile and hazard draws.
- Unlucky cavers can be effectively sidelined mid-game.
- Limited narrative depth beyond the escape premise.
